What should HR be striving to achieve as an internal service provider?

HR support will include administration and advice on a wide range of employment-related policies and procedures, ensuring that the business has in place the systems, processes and resources to meet its employee’s needs.  With any service delivery the quality of the support will vary depending on the skills and knowledge within the team. Achieving a high level of service that is reliable, professional and knowledgeable is essential.

It is easy to get caught up in the day to day operations and responding to issues as they arise, but it is essential to stop and consider what level of service is being provided to your internal customers. Does the service meet the needs of the business and its employees? Is the HR service providing strategies to meet longer term people requirements such as future workforce planning or succession planning for future business success as well as the more day to day support and advice?

The reliance on internal HR services should not be underestimated.  Ultimately every HR team or department should be focusing on supporting their employees to be the best they can possibly be.  After all, this support will in turn assist the business to achieve its strategic goals and ensure future success and sustainability.
